Our Approach

How we rank video converters

One rubric, every format, no pay-to-rank — the method behind the board.

Anyone who has tried to convert a video file knows the problem: dozens of tools, wildly different output quality, and search results that reward advertising budgets over real performance. Video File Convert is our answer — a leaderboard that scores the field so you don't have to gamble on your next transcode.

What we do

We track the tools people use to convert video between formats — MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WebM and more — and we put each one through the same set of jobs. Instead of a list shaped by commissions, you get a ranked view of which converter actually wins the lane you care about.

How we score

Every converter is measured against one consistent rubric, built around the things that matter in a real transcode:

How the tiers work

Scores roll up into ranked tiers — from S-tier all-format all-rounders down to specialists that win a single lane like compression or speed. The tier framing is set today; ranked reviews of individual tools are being scored and will populate the board as they go live.

Our promise

The leaderboard is independent. Placement is never for sale, every tool is scored on the same rubric, and the rankings are revised as converters ship features and change pricing. Some links may be affiliate links that help fund the testing — but they never buy a better rank or a kinder description.
